Durham County Council in Partnership  with County Durham Sport and various School Sport Partnerships (led by Norah Loftus) ran a fabulous and very well organised Level 3 County Finals at Maiden Castle and the Freeman Quays on Friday 5th July.

Throughout the year Sedgefield SSP have run a range of qualifying events to determine which school would represent Sedgefield in the level 3 Games County Finals.  Sedgefield Community College won through to the Golf final and Whitworth Park  gained a place in the Yr 7 & 8 Boys cricket final.

Greenfield finished 3rd place in both these qualifying events. Greenfield College were absolutely delighted and very proud to represent Sedgefield in 5 out of the 7 activities on offer to Secondary schools on the day,  including Tennis, Rugby, Girls Cricket, Boccia and Mountain Biking.

The students performed extremely well against some of the top teams  in the County with  Joel Wraith and Josh Jackson coming away with Bronze medals in the Inclusion tennis and Greenfields U14 Girls rugby team managing to achieve bronze medal position in the U15 Girls rugby event. All teams had a fantastic day and had the opportunity to meet Sophie Cox – Olympic Judo team GB, (pictured above with Greenfield’s mountain biking team).

In addition Greenfield leaders were also recognised at this event.  Because of their commitment throughout the year, seven of Greenfield’s top leaders were invited to lead a range of activities at this special event.  Well done to Jessica Hall, Sam Dobinson, Amber Dolby, Rubi Alderson, Courtnie Mills, Sophie Hayes and Sam Clark.  Fourteen of Greenfields leaders are set to attend the County  Durham celebration event on Friday 12th July to receive their County Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates – for giving over 50, 100 or 200 hours of their time to others  – a fantastic  achievement.  Well done and enjoy.
