Greenfield Arts are pleased to be able to maintain and develop a number of ongoing creative projects at present. Although many members of the community are familiar with our Arts Centre facility, which is currently closed, in this, our birthday year, it is an opportunity to reflect upon some of the wonderful events and projects that have been developed in the wider community that have helped bring so much positivity and creativity to people’s lives.
Although our community arts centre and wider community activity is on hold, the team at Greenfield Arts are working hard with partners to develop current projects and look forward to a future Greenfield Arts programme offer which include projects such as, Shildon in Motion, The Wizard and Typhoon, a community spirit project and an outdoor art work project. Creative Director, Katy Milne has joined forces in collaboration with artists and partners in the community to bring about a positive change and invite the community to be creative, curious and enquiring.
Shildon in Motion is a project that has allowed us to work with the fabulous Shildon community to bring about a new artistic gateway to Shildon Railway Station which will be unveiled later in the year. Students have been working with professional artists recognising influential figures from Shildon in a project titled, The Wizard and Typhoon. This project is supporting and inspiring young people to be creative, learn about the heritage of their area and celebrate two musician/composers, Allan and Bulch who came from the area. We are looking forward to many new projects in development, in particular, two new projects that will celebrate our sense of community and offer creative activity to explore ideas.
Over the past two decades, although there are too many to mention, there are sure to be projects and installations that have brought a smile to many. A few examples you may have come across include; Bring the Funny an uplifting installation seen at Newton Aycliffe Railway Station; Cutting Loose with its spectacular creations and amazing carnival finale; commissioned installations that you may see dotted about the region and the many free activities that have encouraged creativity in young people, families and adults.
