April has been a busy month for Aycliffe Triathlon Club seeing club members participate in a number of events across the North East. On 8th April Den Dale participated in the Washington Duathlon, a 5.5k run, 20k bike, 2.7k run with a time of 1:35:26, 13th in his age category. Brett Lambert completed the Durham Duathlon, a 5k run, 25k bike, 5 k run in a time of 1:46:24, 16th in his age category.

On the 22nd April Dan Halliday participated in the challenging Teasdale Mountain Time Trial, a 42 mile cycle road race with 5000ft of climbing across the North Pennines travelling from Barnard Castle to Stanhope and back again! Dan finished the time trial in an impressive 51stplace with a time of 2:29:52.

Also on 22nd April the fantastic Stockton Duathlon Festival attracted five club members who took on two distances; the Sprint Duathlon (5k run, 20k bike, 2.5k run) and the Standard Duathlon (10k run, 40k bike, 5k run). The races are categorised into age categories. First across the line for the club in the Sprint Duathlon was Nicola Darragh with a time of 1:14:02, Nicola was 13th in her category, next was Den Dale with a time of 1:22:04 who was 49th in his category, and Tracey Warrior with a time of 1:24:20 who was 18th in her category. In the Standard Duathlon Ian Readman came in first for the club with a time of 2:17:39, Ian was 23rd in his category and Mick Casey with a time of 2:52:48 who was 14thin his category.

Nicola Darragh was in action again on 29th April at the Oulton Park Duathlon, a 4.3k run, 21.6k bike, 4.3k run with another impressive performance achieving 8th in her age category this time with a time of 1:26:54.

The start of the Triathlons on 29th April saw double Aycliffe success at the Ponteland Tri (400m swim, 20k bike, 5k run). Despite the initial cold and wet weather Anne Kellett and Alan Kellett both achieved fantastic times. Anne logged an overall time of 1:38:25 which placed her in 2nd in her age category. Alan’s overall time was 1:22:33 placing him 3rd in his age category; two podium finishes.

The Richmond Triathlon, again 29th April (400m swim, 24k bike, 5k run) saw two club members participate, Brett Lambert who logged an overall time of 1:21:46, 9th in his age category and Chris Brown who achieved an overall time of 1:48:12chieved which was 15th in his age group.

At Aycliffe Triathlon Club it’s not all about training and competing. On 21st April members got together for some 10 pin bowling (ok so it was a little bit competitive); a welcome opportunity for club members to get together socially and enjoy a fun night.

For the month of May there are more races and events planned as well as a range of training for club members including bike skills, training rides, running coaching, swimming coaching and core strength and conditioning sessions.
