The Secretary of State Patrick McLoughlin has announced the replacement of the current fleet of Intercity 225 trains on the East Coast Main Line with Hitachi Class 800 series trains as part of the Intercity Express Programme.
This is great news for the Hitachi factory, soon to be built in Newton Aycliffe. The contract provides further orders for the future 730 employees of the new train manufacturing plant.
