Students from Woodham had a fantastic day participating in a Sportsability event at Spennymoor Leisure Centre. The event was organised by Sedgefield Sport Partnership for secondary schools in the county.

In the morning the students enjoyed taster sessions of Basketball coached by a player from the Durham Wildcats, Wheelchair Basketball, Boccia, Dodgeball and New Age Kurling. The pupils were enthusiastic, enriching their experience of trying new sports and socialising with other players participating in the event.

After a leisurely lunch, the afternoon session comprised of students competing in their chosen sport. Woodham Academy pupils chose Wheelchair Basketball and New Age Kurling. Ryan Spoors and Jake Perry from Woodham made up a team with students from another local school. They chose to compete in Wheelchair Basketball, which seemed a very popular choice.

The match was exciting as teams competed against one another. Jake and Ryan, alongside their team players, took 2nd place, receiving silver medals. This enabled the team to qualify for the Level 3 County Games to be held in March. Rebecca Arrowsmith gained a gold medal in her chosen sport of New Age Kurling.

Sportsability is a wonderful opportunity to try new sports and get involved. All our students should be proud of their achievement.
