Two members of 1407 (Newton Aycliffe) Squadron Air Cadets attended a presentation ceremony at St James Palace this week to receive their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.

Cpl Aaron Robinson and former Flt Sgt Jack Tinkler worked hard for over a year to gain the prestigious award. They were given their certificates by renowned mountaineer and ex RAF engineer Ted Atkins in the presence of HRH Prince Edward. Aaron and Jack both gained valuable experience and skills while doing their Gold Awards including BTec awards in Aviation Studies. They both also completed a tough expedition in the Cheviots in very challenging weather conditions.

Jack is now a Civilian Instructor at 1407 although he can only attend during breaks from London Metropolitan University where he is studying for a degree in Computer Science. Aaron is soon to join the Royal Navy and is leaving the squadron to go to HMS Raleigh. We wish him every success in his new career.
