The NHS is reminding people in Cumbria and the North East where they can access expert, confidential and quick health care advice over the August bank holiday.
People of all ages can save time in the waiting room by visiting their pharmacist for advice and treatment on a range of common illnesses or injuries.
Pharmacists are highly trained and fully qualified to give advice on all sorts of health issues including coughs, breathing problems, bites and stings, colds and sore throats.
They are easy to access, often locally based, you do not need an appointment and they are often open longer hours.
It is also helpful to ensure you have any prescription medication you need and a well- stocked medicine cabinet, for when GP practices are closed over the August bank holiday. This includes pain relief, anti-diarrhoea medicine, plasters bandages, thermometer, antihistamines and antiseptic cream.
Sheila Lister, Head of Primary Care for NHS England, said:
“Your local pharmacy can help you with more than you might think. Pharmacists offer expert, confidential advice and treatment for many minor health problems.
“As most GP surgeries will be closed on Monday we would also encourage patients to order any medication they need in plenty of time, so they have a good supply during the bank holiday.”
Pharmacy opening hours in the Cumbria and the North east can be found on the keep calm website.
