Dear Sir,

Whilst at the County in Aycliffe Village last Sunday, people were enjoying a Quiz with owners Collette and Stuart when a rather unsavoury argument broke out between two local men.

It was very sudden and highly charged with swearing, punches thrown and many customers shaken by their extreme behaviour.

It was the talk of the pub once the commotion had calmed down and surpisingly, according to people who were nearby, it was over religion.

I can only assume the man who threw the first punch was not the religious one as it would be a sad example on how to solve one’s disagreements.

It is also a shame that this should happen in Collete and Stuart’s pub where they are such great hosts.

As an interested historian I ask myself is it religion that causes these emotions or those people that have been blinkered by the Church?
