Football has always been a big part of Woodham Academy’s extra-curricular programme and Friday 11th February was another example of great success. A team made up of Year 11 and 10 students participated in a tournament hosted by Darlington College and the Martin Gray Football Academy at Eastbourne Sports Complex.
Competing in their first tournament for two years due to COVID, Woodham Academy played some scintillating football, which resulted in them winning the tournament without dropping a point, winning 6 out of 6 matches and only conceding one goal. It was also pleasing that the players were commended for their behaviour throughout the day. Nathan Beadle, Curriculum and Development Manager and Further Education Lead at MGFA, contacted Woodham Academy stating, “I am sending you this email to highlight the exemplary conduct shown by your pupils during the Year 11 Football Tournament hosted last Friday 11th February by Martin Gray Football Academy.
Not only did your team show great footballing ability but also excellent desire, teamwork, respect and impeccable behaviour. The pupils, along with the accompanying member of staff, were an absolute credit to your school and were a delight to work with”. The Bishop Auckland Schools Football League has recently resumed giving a welcome return to competitive fixtures for teams representing Woodham Academy in all year groups.
