Football frenzy hit Stephenson Way Primary last week as pupils were treated to a day of tricks and stunts by the world record holding football freestyler, Ash Randall.

Ash’s visit began with a showcase assembly, during which he wowed the eager crowd with his talents. He carefully explained that he’d been developing his skills for ten years and that his most complex move (which involved balancing the ball while skipping) had taken more than four years to master. Acting Deputy Head, Mr Everson, told us, “It’s great for the children to see that the attributes we encourage in class, such as determination and having a positive mindset, can also lend themselves to achievements in other aspects of life. They were shocked at how long Ash had persevered with learning some of his tricks and admired his can-do attitude.”

Working with KS2 pupils throughout the day, Ash broke down his skills into bite-size chunks so that the children could see how they worked. Practising in pairs, pupils were amazed at how quickly they picked up some of the tricks, which had looked so complex only minutes earlier. Charly, a Year 5 pupil, said, “I’m not a fan of football and thought I wouldn’t like this at all, but it was AWESOME and I’ll definitely be trying it at home!”
