A BARBECUE was held at Aycliffe Village Hall on Midsummer’s Day to say goodbye to the Reverend Julie Wing who is leaving the parish.
More than 40 villagers gathered at the event held outside in the grounds on a warm, sunny evening, and enjoyed beef steaks, burgers and sausages in buns, followed by Black Forest gateau and chocolate cheesecake.
The Rev Julie Wing has taken the Services at St Andrew’s Church in Aycliffe Village for the past five years ago, in her role as team vicar for the Parish of Great Aycliffe.
She said: “I have really enjoyed my time in the parish and am very sorry to be leaving. Aycliffe Village is a lovely place and has a great community spirit.”
Church warden, Dawn Herbert, of Aycliffe Village, who helped to organise the barbecue, said: “Julie will be greatly missed. She made a point of meeting people because she wanted them to get to know her.”
Julie is taking over as the rector at Usworth, in the parish of Washington.
