Then come along to the 11th Annual Model Railway Exhibition organised by Rotary Newton Aycliffe at the Youth and Community Centre, Burn Lane, Newton Aycliffe DL5 4HT (Tesco) on Saturday 21st March 2020 from 10am to 5pm.

This year’s event will be better than ever with 23 working layouts booked for the event ranging from “Z” to “O” scales (very small to very large) representing locations from the UK and Europe. Of special interest will be a self-drive Thomas and Friends layout from Shildon Model Railway Club. Several of the layouts will feature digital operation including sound.

Traders will be well represented with 10 stands selling new and pre-owned model railway items along with die-cast models, scenery, photographs and books. Four full size preservation societies will be lending their support while other enthusiasts will be manning a tombola stall and serving refreshments. Free parking is available at St Mary’s RC Church just yards from the event. There is disability access, refreshments and a family tombola.

This is a real community event including sponsorship from Durham County Council, Great Aycliffe Town Council and Barclays Bank plc. Assistance from Shildon Model Railway Club, the Army Reserve, St Mary’s Church, and some 35 Rotarians is much appreciated. Proceeds from the exhibition will be shared between Heel and Toe and The Railway Children.

Entry costs £5 for adults, £4 for concessions and 50p for children. There are family tickets available at £10. Further information is available from Rtn John Burrows on 07870 210269 or email jandeburrows@gmail.com
