Spectrum (North East) Roller Skating Club travelled to Cardiff to compete in a three day skating event at Cardiff House of Sport. The team of 13 skaters ranging from six years to adults competed with 20 clubs from around the country and came back with an amazing haul of medals.

Our medal winners: in her first competition Iris Comerford gained bronze; Jazzmyn Loring, aged 8, brought back two golds for performances to “Lord of the Dance” and “Bop to the Top” and a silver in solo dance. Jazzmyn went on to reach Best of Standard Finals; Niamh Dawson achieved a bronze for her 2 minute free programme and duo Nicola Stevens and Joseph Kearney were placed 3rd gaining bronze.

Coach Tracy Stevens commented, “I am so proud of the progress made by the whole club. We have such a fantastic team of people who help each other. Thank you to everyone who supports us and makes our dreams happen.”

Spectrum had lots to celebrate as Saturday was skater Aysha Toms 13th Birthday. The club decorated the party bus with banners and balloons and later celebrated at Prezzo with a ‘skating’ cake.

The spotlight was then on one of our adult skaters Andrea Vasey who had a memorable Cardiff experience when Daniel Johnson skated on to the rink, got down on one knee and proposed during the competition. The room was in silence as our skaters entered the floor carrying a message for Andrea – WILL YOU MARRY ME? – who then said, “Yes!”.

Our youngest skater, Liam Stevens-Bell carried on the ring and there was tears of happiness. We are now waiting for the happy couple to set a date for our first Spectrum Skating Club Wedding!
