An application for permission to build 266 houses at Eldon Whins has been submitted to the County Council.
The development is adjacent to existing houses and will include a new roundabout access on Greenfield Way.
This land is within the parish of Middridge and will resurrect the controversy over boundaries which Great Aycliffe Town Council wish to change, bringing the new houses into their parish.
This was the original intention under the Newton Aycliffe master plan and was taken for granted until recently Middridge Parish Council insisted on keeping their boundary.
Moves will be made soon to ensure the new development becomes part of Great Aycliffe on the basis the residents of Eldon Whins will be a natural part of Newton Aycliffe, enjoying its facilities, and quite separate from the parish of Middridge.
