With the kind permission of the Tesco Store, Community Spirit ran a Drive Thru Santa Event last Sunday to lift the spirits of the towns folk. After an application to the Safety Advisory Group at Durham County Council, their Covid-19 Team gave it the green light to proceed, as long as it was well planned and appropriately marshalled.
What passed off was an amazing evening with young and old enjoying the Christmas spirit. Town Councillor, Michael Stead, organised the smooth running of the flowing traffic, ably assisted by members of Rotary Newton Aycliffe.
The hard work of Gavin, the chief engineer at J&C Coaches, and his staff really paid off, the sleigh being bigger and better than last year. It’s unfortunate that Community Spirit couldn’t fulfil their usual fundraising duties with Mr & Mrs Claus, but they hope the Drive Thru Event, which runs again on Sunday 13th and 20th December, from 5pm, will be enjoyed by all.
