Dr. Mark Bamford was born and raised in Norwich moving up to the Northeast to start medical school at Newcastle in 1983. He completed his post-graduate GP training across Hartlepool and Middlesbrough joining Bewick Crescent Surgery in August 1993. Dr. Bamford has worked at the surgery for nearly 29 years covering the additional responsibility of Aycliffe Young People’s Centre’s Medical Officer for the same time. He has been a GP trainer helping to develop the next generation of GPs and supporting nurses through their post-graduate skills and qualifications. He represented the practice during negotiations of service delivery with the Health Authorities.
Dr. Bamford has witnessed enormous changes in the UK’s health system over his time and has decided that this is right time to retire. He aims to commit more time to travelling, wildlife exploring and sports. Dr. Bamford would like to thank all his current and former colleagues for their support and friendship over the years but, mainly, would like to thank the people of Newton Aycliffe for giving him the honour of looking after their health and wellbeing for many, many years, and wishes them a long healthy and happy life. Dr. Bamford retires at the end of the March 2022.
Dr. Stephenson, Senior GP Partner at Bewick Crescent Surgery, thanked Dr. Bamford for his loyal commitment to Bewick and has called to recognise the tens of thousands of patients he will have helped during his time here. “In addition to being a colleague, Mark has been a great friend to work with and we wish him a well-deserved retirement. He has always been very proud to work for the NHS for all these years and it is with a heavy heart, we bid you farewell and thank you once again.”
