A Dogs Trust Darlington staff member came to the aid of an injured walker last week, while trekking across Brown Cove Crags on Helvellyn, the third highest mountain in England. Chrissie Davies and her partner Craig Loader were out for the day with Dogs Trust resident Loki, a one-year-old Collie, when they happened upon a woman who had fallen 50m and sustained what seemed to be a head injury.
Chrissie Davies said: “Although Helvellyn is a popular destination for mountain climbers, at certain heights there is no guarantee what the weather will be like. Thankfully we had supplies; blankets and lots of coffee to keep the lady warm and Craig is an ambulance technician so was able to provide some additional support as well, while we waited on Keswick Mountain Rescue; who managed to stretcher the lady to a waiting ambulance at the bottom of the mountain.
“We had been out for the day with Loki, in the hopes of getting some nice pictures of him for his Dogs Trust rehoming profile online and the lady had been out walking with her own dog; as it was her dog we noticed first. Loki was the one who alerted us to the situation as he bounded up and quickly became friends with the dog and we realised something was wrong.
