Dear Sir,
May I respond to the correspondence on building works and other contract work being carried out on the town and the site of the solar panel installation near to Ineos at School Aycliffe.
These builders need to look at Walter Thompson who are erecting the care home on the site of the old Police Station. I am there twice a day and the road is always cleaned and there are several large trucks there every day. It is where there is a big development it is an offence to leave rubble, clay, and other debris on the highway, as it is dangerous to other vehicles. I think the police should call and make them aware of the dangers to motorbikes and cyclists.
May I suggest to the the town centre manager that the town clock is loathed by some for the noise it makes during night time. I once lived 200 yards from it and heard every chime. A sensible request would be to mute the clock chimes from midnight until 06-00 hours.
I now live on Oakfield but it still keeps me awake me and it intrudes into our home and as such is classed as a noise nuisance.
I envisage most Newtonians would back my request, but I do not want it removed or demolished, it is iconic, but common sense has to prevail,
G. Thompson
