After the wins of last week we went into the game against Workington full of confidence but ultimately lost 2-1 thanks to a fantastic late strike from the Reds’ Conor Tinnion. However, we all knew that this league was going to be more difficult than the last and, hopefully, we will be able to learn from these defeats.
Our next game is on Saturday and it’s another tough tie away to Colwyn Bay (Llanelian Road, Old Colwyn, Conwy, LL29 8UN) who came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Salford on Tuesday night. The Bay and Workington are amongst those teams expecting to be challenging at the top end of the table along with Bank Holiday Monday’s opponents, Blyth Spartans. Well no-one said it was going to be easy. The Spartans, at time of writing, are the league’s pacesetters winning all of their opening fixtures and sit proudly atop the table on 12 points with Darlington in tenth on six points. A big crowd is expected on Monday for what should be a very good game. Kick off is at 3pm at Heritage Park (adults £10, concession £7 and children £4) see you there.
This week’s FA Cup draw gave us a home draw against league opponents, Hyde United. The Cup game takes place on 12 September and just seven days later the two teams meet again at Heritage Park for the league fixture. Football, eh? It’s a, well, you know.
The next meeting of the Darlington FC Newton Aycliffe supporters group will take place on Wednesday 9 September, that’s the day after the Ramsbottom home game, at 7pm in the Iron Horse. As ever, all are welcome.  Keep the faith.
