Trad New Orleans jazz fans are in for a treat when The Lazy River Band comes to town on Saturday 6 October.

The band is the guest of Darlington New Orleans Jazz Club, whose monthly lunchtime gigs are turning into packed out events. The Lazy River Band has a great pedigree as a long-established dixieland/swing/ mainstream combo led by Chris Perrin on reeds, and comes with a guarantee of a great afternoon of classic New Orleans jazz.

Following on, one of the Club’s great favourites revisits St Augustine’s on Saturday 3 November. The New Century Ragtime Orchestra – all twelve of them – return to continue their musical roller coaster ride through the music of the ‘Jazz Age’. They never fail to delight every time they play at the club.

Darlington New Orleans Jazz Club’s year wraps up on Saturday 1 December with some gypsy jazz from Emma Fisk’s Hot Club du Nord. Emma is a very fine jazz violinist who has played alongside many inspiring musicians including Darlington favourite Spats Langham, Keith Nichols, Enrico Tomasso, and in London with the Jazz Repertory Company. If you love Django and Stephane Grappelli you’ll find Emma and Hot Club du Nord are right up there amongst the best for gypsy jazz.

All gigs start at 12.30pm. Darlington New Orleans Jazz Club meets at St Augustine’s Parish Hall, Larchfield Street, Darlington. Entry is just £10 on the door, and children 15 and under go free. St Augustine’s Parish Centre is a short walk from the bus stops on Tubwell Row and Darlington railway station.
