Tiffany School of Dance, is the latest in a number of high profile local organisations to get behind the Appeal to raise money for MRI scanners at Darlington Memorial Hospital and Bishop Auckland Hospital, raising almost £1,400. Based on Branksome Terrace, Tiffany’s has pupils as young as three taking classes in ballet, tap and other forms of dance.    Rachael Tiffany said “Our latest show was called ‘Celebration’ as we’re marking 20 years since I started the school.  With the Civic Theatre out of action, Yarm School kindly loaned us their Princess Alexandra Auditorium”.

“We always use the event to support a charity and I chose the MRI scanner appeal as a good local cause. It’s vital equipment from which many people will benefit.” Parents were invited to make a contribution to the appeal in exchange for their child having a head and shoulders photograph in the programme and this alone raised almost £400.  Collection tins and other activities on performance nights helped boost the total. Charity development officer at County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, Pat Chambers, said, “We’re so grateful to Rachael for selecting us as her charity and to everyone who contributed.  We want to bring the very latest in MRI innovation to our hospitals as tremendous advances in scanning technology over recent years means they can be enormously helpful to our radiology consultants in diagnosing cancer, heart conditions, strokes and many other health issues. Scans can also give doctors information that previously required the patient to undergo surgery or invasive procedures as part of the investigation of their symptoms.

Unlike X-rays, MRI scanners don’t use radiation, making this safer for patients.    “We welcome any fundraising support and encourage individuals, families and organisations like Tiffany School of Dance to get involved.  For example, if you’re lucky enough to have a place on The Great North Run or other challenge events this year, please consider nominating us as your charity.   For more information on how you can help please contact me at: pat.chambers1@nhs.net or phone: 01325 743781.
