Dear Sir,
Pedestrians must be aware that we have some inconsiderate cyclists in our midst and they seem to be increasing!
I suggest cyclists THINK! How close do you cycle to pedestrians as sometimes we cannot hear you approaching until it is too late. USE A BELL! It could save pedestrians being bumped into or knocked over.
I have been knocked more than once because cyclists are not aware of space (unless they are complaining about cars driving too close to them). I will say I am not the only one to experience this problem and I hope the culprits realise how dangerous they are.
The Highway Code states:
64 You MUST NOT cycle on a pavement. Laws HA 1835 sect 72 & R(S)A 1984, sect 129
Although the code states MUST NOT cycle on pavements I can understand the need, however everyone should feel safe when walking and not worry about being knocked down.
69 You MUST obey all traffic signs and traffic light signals. Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD reg 10(1)
I have witnessed many a cyclist running a red light at a junction or pedestrian crossing or refusing to stop at a zebra crossing.
