After nearly 40 years The Cubby in the Town Centre is closing on 6th September and re-opening at the Neville Parade Community Centre the next day offering the same Drop-in facilities it has always offered.
Bill Blenkinsopp was elected Chairman of the new Management Committee at Neville Parade with the agreement that both facilities amalgamate to provide an enhanced service to the community and the town.
This follows the resignation, due to ill health, of long serving Chairman Peter Beaty who over 14 years has almost rebuilt what once known as the “Over 60’s Club”. It would certainly have been demolished had not Peter Beaty stepped in and saved the building.
The town owes Peter a debt of gratitude for his selfless service to Newton Aycliffe and a lifetime of charitable work which earned him numerous awards.
On behalf of the townspeople we thank him for his dedication to his time as Chairman at Neville Parade and the legacy he has left. We also hope he enjoys the well earnt rest in his retirement.
Bill Blenkinsopp said he was excited at the prospect of amalgamating The Cubby with Neville Parade Community Centre and hoped it would breathe new life into the area. He was grateful that Peter Beaty would stay in touch as a consultant and said his experience would be invaluable.
“I hope the people in the area will come along and support the Centre in its new role and I will certainly be trying hard to bring new ideas and services to the community” said Bill.
