COUNCIL NEED LAND FOR SHOPS

On Saturday 11th October 2014 the Trustees of Great Aycliffe Old People’s Welfare Committee were served with a formal notice of twelve months to vacate the site on which the portable building known as “The Cubby” stands.
Notice was given under section 25 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 to end the tenancy on the 10th October 2015.
The Cubby has legally occupied the site for 37 years and the notice to quit came without any formal prior warning. The Council has not made any offer of an alternative site at this stage.
Before making any response to Durham County Council the Trustees are seeking legal advice. When that is received and the Trustees have had the opportunity to consider its position a formal reply will be made to the Council.
This notice to quit also affects “Honest John” who currently operates from The Cubby raising thousands of pounds for worthy causes in Newton Aycliffe.
In the meantime The Cubby remains open as usual and Honest John’s fund raising activities continue.
The Trustees.
