Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store made the long trip to Guisborough 2nd XI in the NYSD 2nd division and came away with a comfortable victory by 8 wickets. The homeside chose to bat first and were restricted to 118 for 6 in their allotted 50 overs thanks to some tight bowling from Luke Telford (2 for 11 from 13 overs) and Patrick Howe (2 for 33 from 13 overs). In reply, Aycliffe hurried to victory after only 16.1 overs with good contributions from Luke Telford (sponsored by Pheonix Energy), who scored 40 not out from 40 balls, Michael Howe (30 runs from 18 balls) and Joe Haines (27 runs from 25 balls).

The 2nd team lost at home to third in the table Sedgefield 2nd XI by 110 runs in their NYSD 4th division clash. The visitors batted first and scored a huge 262 for 5 declared after 40.2 overs. Dan Weldon bowled superbly in sweltering conditions taking 2 for 51 from 12.2 overs and he was supported well by captain Steve Sweeney who took 2 for 68 from 10 overs. 17 year old Aycliffe opener George Slatcher (sponsored by Mr & Mrs Greaves) batted superbly and scoring a career best 47 and other notable contributions were made by Jack Lowery (26 runs) and Arran Taylor (16 runs) as Aycliffe were bowled out for a fighting 152 after 44.2 overs.

An under strength u17’s made the short journey to Sedgefield in the quarter final of the league cup and lost a thrilling game by just one wicket. Asked to bat first Aycliffe scored a respectable 75 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs with openers Dan Bowmer (26 runs) and Arran Taylor (25 runs) both batting well. Sedgefield were pegged back by some superb bowling from Dan Bowmer (3 for 9), Ryan Patrick (2 for 4) and Leo Mercy (2 for 9), but the homeside crawled over the winning line in a tense finale reaching their winning target of 76 for the loss of 9 wickets with just 2 balls remaining. A depleted u13’s lost away at Seaton Carew by 8 wickets, but there were some excellent individual performances by the Aycliffe players. Talented opening batsman Harry Wright was again amongst the runs scoring another unbeaten 30 and there were wickets for both Matthew Greaves and Leo Mercy. Special mention must also go to Jack Paylor for some excellent fielding and also to Ollie Coulter and Oliver Paylor, who both had solid games on their u13’s debuts.

The u13’s played their 2nd game in a week and they were beaten at home to Darlington by 59 runs, but there was an outstanding bowling performance from 9 year old Daniel Heaton. The promising youngster took four wickets for just one run and helped by two wickets from David Robinson, Aycliffe bowled out the visitors for 98 from 19.1 overs. In reply, some tight Darlington bowling restricted the home side to 39 for 6 from their 20 overs. The u11’s had a fantastic win by 85 runs at home to Billingham Synthonia u11’s in the NYACC league. The Dearden brothers bowled superbly with younger brother Will taking three wickets for one run and Thomas taking two wickets for one run and Daniel Heaton top scored in the Aycliffe innings with 8 not out. Harrison Pearson, who celebrated his 10th birthday on the day, was made Aycliffe’s captain and responded with an excellent catch and a smart run out.
