Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store made to short trip to Sedgefield 1st XI in the NYSD 2nd division and were disappointed to come away with a 40 runs defeat after earlier being in a promising position to win the game. The home side were asked to bat first and were in trouble at 78 for 8 thanks to some excellent bowling from both Patrick Howe (4 for 26) and brother Michael (sponsored by Yvonne and Bob Wood) took 3 for 24. However the Sedgefield tail fought back and took their side to a respectable 142 all out after 44.4 overs.

In reply, Aycliffe looked very comfortable at 56 for 0, with acting captain Darryn Bancroft (37 runs) and Adam Gittins (17) in control. Then a dramatic collapse saw the visitors lose all ten of their wickets for just 46 runs as they were bowled out for 102 from 32 overs, still 41 runs short of their winning target.

The 2nd team hosted a very strong Saltburn 2nds in the 4th division of the NYSD and were soundly beaten by 129 runs. The visitors were asked to bat first on a beautiful Aycliffe wicket and proceeded to rack up an impregnable score of 225 for 5 from their allotted 40 overs.

James Brown finished with 2 for 30 from his 6 overs, Dan Weldon also bowled well for the homeside taking 2 for 41 from ten overs and Dylan Tribley took two smart catches. In reply, Aycliffe were dismissed for 96 from 25.1 overs with Dan Bowmer (18 runs), Joe Haines (15 runs) and Dylan Tribley (14 runs) the top three scorers.

The Under 15’s lost by ten wickets at home to Blackhall in the NYACC. Batting first Aycliffe were skittled for 61 after 16.4 overs with opener Harry Wright the only batsman to reach double figures when he top scored with 12 runs. The visitors easily reached their winning target in the 11th over.

The U13’s began their season away at Richmond and came away with an eight wicket defeat in the NYACC. After being asked to bat first Aycliffe were bowled out for 69 with good innings from Charlie Cayless and Dan Heaton, who both jointly top scored with 19 runs each. In reply the home side eased to a comfortable win despite some good bowling from Aycliffe’s David Robinson who took one wicket for seven runs from his three overs. Special mention must go to debutants Adam Shaw, who kept wicket, Harry Brumwell and Will Dryden who all played well in their first games at this level.

The club’s U11’s team got their season off to a great start with an emphatic 53 run win away at Blackhall in the NYACC League. In the Aycliffe innings, Dan Heaton top scored with 18 runs and Harrison Pearson also batted well scoring 12. When the home side batted, Pearson was again in the action taking two wickets for just two runs for Aycliffe and he was supported well by Joe Ingman who also took a wicket. Special mention must go to both Jayden Leaver and Harry Palmer, who had encouraging debuts for Aycliffe.
