Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s first team had a fixture free week, but the 2nd team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store were well beaten at home by Marske 2nd XI by 8 wickets in the NYSD 3rd division. Aycliffe lost the toss and were asked to bat first and scored an under par 162 all out after 39.3 overs. Chris Palmer (sponsored by Vanila Design & Print) top scored with a fluent 56 from just 61 balls, including 8 boundaries and a 6 and was given good support from Joe Teasdale (25), Elliott Holt (17) and Ryan Patrick (17). In reply Marske raced to their winning target after just 26.2 overs and with eight wickets in hand.
Aycliffe’s u17’s were defeated away at top of the table Stockton by seven wickets in the NYSD junior league. Electing to bat first, Aycliffe scored 71 for 6 in their 20 overs with captain Ryan Dawson (22), Ryan Patrick (18) and Jack Lowery (12) the main contributors. In reply the homeside easily reached their target after just nine overs despite some good bowling from all rounder Dawson, who finished his four over spell with three wickets for 24 runs.
The club’s u15’s had an exciting nine run victory at home to Norton in the NYACC league. After being asked to bat first Aycliffe scored a respectable 98 for 6 in their 20 overs, thanks in part to a brilliant innings by Kieran Shingler who finished unbeaten on 32. In reply Norton were restricted to 89 for 5 in their 20 overs, with captain Lucas Pilling the pick of the Aycliffe bowlers taking 2 for 16 from his four overs.
The u11’s beat the poor weather, but unfortunately couldn’t beat Richmond for the second time this season as they lost by 24 runs. Charlie Cayless top scored for Aycliffe with an excellent innings of 15 and Rob Hillman also batted well scoring 12 with Jack Paylor taking the only Richmond wicket to fall.
