Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s first team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store finally got their first win of the season in a hard fought game by four wickets at home to Wolviston 1st XI in the NYSD 2nd division. The visitors elected to bat first and were bowled out for 165 after 49.5 overs. Captain Luke Telford was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 8 and was given good support from Patrick Howe (2 for 34) and Ryan Dawson (2 for 43).
In reply 16 year old all rounder Ryan Dawson (sponsored by Pheonix Energy (UK) Ltd) opened the batting and scored a superb 59, including seven boundaries and with fellow opener Adam Gittins scoring 25, the pair helped to set a good foundation for Aycliffe. Michael Howe then took over and his blistering innings of 54 from just 35 balls, including ten boundaries helped see the homeside to their first win of the season with 11.5 overs in hand.
The club’s second team turned out one of the youngest sides in the club’s history and included three under 13’s players in their side and it was no surprise that they lost by 152 runs away at a very strong Redcar 2nd XI in the NYSD 3rd division. Choosing to bat first the home side totalled a huge 230 for 6 declared from 43 overs despite some brilliant bowling from 13 year old Lucas Pilling who finished with 3 for 48 from his nine overs. In reply Aycliffe were skittled for just 78 after 22.4 overs with only 17 year old Sam Dobinson (scoring 13) and 15 year old Dan Bowmer with 12, reaching double figures.
The u17’s lost away at Wolviston by 10 wickets in the NYSD junior league. Batting first Aycliffe limped to 63 for 7 from their 20 overs despite an excellent innings from Ryan Patrick who top scored with 25. In reply the homeside easily reached their target after 9.3 overs.
The u15’s put in a good performance but still came out with a seven wicket defeat at home to Darlington. Batting first, Aycliffe’s Jack Lowery (35 runs), Lucas Pilling (26 not out) and Joe Aitken with 17 runs all batted well to give their side a respectable total of 101 for 5 from 20 overs. In reply Darlington reached their victory target after 12.4 overs.
The u13’s team had a tough game away at a Barnard Castle side that included several County players among their ranks and unsurprising lost by 89 runs. However on the positive side there was a good batting performance from captain Lucas Pilling and also two wickets each for both Kieran Shingler and Nathan Slater. The following night the u13’s travelled to Sedgefield and despite a much improved performance, they still lost by 25 runs. Special mention must go to Aycliffe’s Iain Robson and Luke Grindlay, who both bowled really well in the match.
Under 11’s team had a stunning victory by 17 runs in a brilliant all round display away at Barnard Castle. Rob Hillman top scored with 14 runs and David Robinson also batted well scoring 8 runs. Josh Imerson and Matty Greaves both bowled superbly and special mention must go to debutant Harrison Pearson, who took a wicket and also held a stunning one handed catch on the boundary to cap a fine day for the Aycliffe youngsters.
