Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s first team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store had a straight forward home win by 112 runs against relegation threatened Sedgefield 2nd XI in the NYSD second division. Aycliffe were asked to bat first and scored at a very quick rate and were eventually bowled out for an impressive 225 from just 35 overs.
Sam Telford (sponsored by Yvonne and Bob Wood) top scored with a typically robust innings of 68, which included nine boundaries to reach his best score of the season. Stephen Sweeney also batted well, scoring 45 with other useful contributions coming from both Tom Wickins (26 runs) and captain Chris Palmer (25 runs).
In reply the visitors were bowled out for 113 after 33.3 overs thanks to some excellent bowling from James Layfield-Carroll (3 for 16), Luke Telford (3 for 17) and John Cavanagh (3 for 37).
The second team travelled to 3rd in the table Bedale 1st XI and were beaten by 40 runs in their NYSD 3rd division clash. The home side chose to bat first and were bowled out for 128 after 46.4 overs.
Dan Craggs was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 25 and was given good support from Jack Slatcher (sponsored by Mr & Mrs Greaves), who took 3 for 13 from 13 overs.
Acting captain Slatcher batted with gritty determination to top score with 20 and Danny Weldon and James Brown both chipped in with 13 runs each as Aycliffe were dismissed for a below par 88 after 39.4 overs.
The Club’s junior presentation night has been arranged for Wednesday 16th September at the Sports club and it will start at 7pm. All u11’s and u13’s who have played for the club this season are invited to attend.
