Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team team sponsored by Franks The Flooring Store play their first NYSD league cup final at home to Stokesley 2nd XI on Tuesday 23rd June at 6pm. Entry is £2 for adults and kids are free, all support will be welcome.
The first team had a straight forward win away at Sedgefield 2nd XI by 108 runs, which moves them up to third in the NYSD 2nd division. Electing to bat first Aycliffe powered their way to a massive 214 for 8 declared from just 40 overs. Matty Atkinson (sponsored by Emtec Medical Training) top scored with a big hitting unbeaten 72 and was given good support from acting captain Luke Telford with 32 and Tom Young who scored 28. In reply former Sedgefield player John Cavanagh took 5 for 23 for Aycliffe and with a couple of wickets each from both Luke Telford and Michael Howe, the home side were skittled for just 106 after 36.5 overs.
The 2nd team had an excellent seven wicket home win against high flying Bedale 1st XI in the NYSD 3rd division. Electing to bowl first, Aycliffe dismissed the visitors for just 102 from 43.1 overs. Medium pacer Tom Wickins was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 8 and was given good support from Patrick Howe (3 for 24) and Jack Slatcher (2 for 38). In reply veteran Tony Travis batted well scoring 27 to get his team off to a good start. All rounders Howe (38 not out) and Slatcher (12 not out) then saw Aycliffe home to victory with 24.1 overs in hand. 17 year old Patrick Howe (sponsored by Aycliffe NUFC Supporters Bus) was nominated man of the match for his brilliant all round performance.
The u18’s lost a high scoring match at home to Brandon by 5 wickets. Electing to bat first Aycliffe rattled up an impressive 138 for 5 from their 20 overs with captain Ben Nicholson smashing a seasonal best score of 60 and Patrick Howe supporting well with his seasonal best score of 44. In reply, three wickets from Aycliffe all rounder Patrick Howe couldn’t prevent the visitors from easing to victory with 14 balls in hand.
Aycliffe’s u15’s team had a dramatic win by just 2 runs away at Evenwood in the County Durham Junior league. Electing to bat first Aycliffe scored 100 for 8 in their 20 overs thanks to Jack Lowery’s second unbeaten half century of the season and 20 runs from his fellow opener Dan Bowmer. In reply Evenwood were held to just 98 for 9 with captain Dylan Dylan Tribley the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 5, but special mention must go to James Knowlson (1 for 5) who bowled a really good last over to help win the game for Aycliffe.
The under 13’s played well, but still lost at home to Blackhall by 9 wickets. Batting first Aycliffe scored a respectable 79 for 4 in their 20 overs with good contributions coming from Johh Gray (22 runs), Lucas Piling (20 not out) and Ali Abbasi (13 runs).
