Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring played their final game of the season at home to Yarm 1st XI in the NYSD 2nd division and came out on top in a tight game by three wickets. The visitors, who needed to win to avoid relegation, won the toss and elected to bat first and scored a respectable 176 all out after 49.4 overs. James Layfield-Carroll was the pick of the home sides bowlers taking 3 for 21 from 9 overs and he was supported well by Colin Myers (2 for 13) and Jack Slatcher (2 for 44). Aycliffe got off to a dreadful start after losing three quick wickets with only four runs on the board. However an excellent 4th wicket partnership of 68 between Sam Telford (sponsored by Mr & Mrs Telford), who top scored with 55 and Michael Howe (30 runs) put Aycliffe back on track. When they were both dismissed, captain Luke Telford took control with a fluent 44 and with good support from Chris Palmer, who chipped in with 18 runs, Aycliffe reached their winning target with three wickets and 11.1 overs in hand. Aycliffe first team finished their season with a playing record of played 24, won 9, lost 9, drew 6 and finished 5th place in the division with 313 points.
