Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team had a fixture free weekend, but the 2nd team travelled to top of the table Table 3rd XI in their NYSD Sunday division two match and lost by 6 wickets despite a decent performance from the club’s youngsters.
Norton won the toss and asked Aycliffe to bat first and openers Sam Telford (48 runs) and Nathan Blakeburn (24) got the innings off to a good start, putting on 44 for the first wicket.
Ben Nicholson batted well scoring 15 and at 88 for 1, Aycliffe looked on target for a big innings total. However despite a quickfire score of 17 from captain Adam Gittins, the Aycliffe innings subsided and they were eventually dismissed for 142 after 41.4 overs. In reply the homeside eased to victory after 28.2 overs with Aycliffe’s 15 year old leg spinner Patrick Howe the pick of the bowlers finishing with an excellent, 3 wickets for 43 runs from 7 overs.
The club take this opportunity to thank “Honest John” for his donation of £450 to the cricket club, which will be gladly used to purchase replacememnt cricket equipment that is used predominantly by members of our junior section.
