Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store earned a battling draw away at Wolviston 1st XI in the NYSD 2nd Division. Electing to bat first, the home side were bowled out for 171 off the final ball of their allotted 50 overs with Aycliffe seamers Mark Woodhead and Michael Howe both bowling well, taking 3 wickets each. The visitors lost wickets at regular intervals and were thankful for an excellent 6th wicket partnership of 71 by Chris Palmer (41 runs) (sponsored by Vanila Design & Print) and Jack Slatcher (29 runs) and an unbeaten 15 at the end from all rounder Woodhead, to ensure that Aycliffe avoided defeat as they reached 138 for 8. The U17’s played their final game of the season and were beaten by six wickets away at Stockton in quarter finals of the NYSD 15/15 cup. Batting first opening batsman Dan Bowmer scored a brilliant 54, including ten boundaries, and Dylan Tribley chipped in with 10 as Aycliffe finished on a respectable 100 for 5 after 15 overs. In reply, the home side reached their victory target in the 10th over and with the loss of four wickets with Jack Lowery and Ryan Patrick both picking up a couple of wickets. Our depleted U15’s team travelled to Darlington and bravely played with 9 men and it was therefore no surprise that they were defeated by 117 runs. Darlington scored a ridiculous 199 for 2 in their 20 overs despite Aycliffe’s Luke Grindlay taking 2 for 16 from his 3 overs. In reply, Aycliffe battled hard and were eventually dismissed for 82 after 15.3 overs, with good contributions from Dylan Tribley (21 runs), Joe Aitken (18 runs) and 10 not out from Harry Wright. The U13’s managed to beat the damp and gloomy weather, but unfortunately still lost at home to Barnard Castle by seven wickets. Aycliffe batted first and scored a respectable 69 for 7 in their 20 overs thanks to a career best score of 17 from opener Harry Wright and a useful 12 runs from fellow opener Lucas Pilling. In reply the visitors reached their winning target in the 13th over with seven wickets in hand. The U11’s played superbly and were unlucky to lose by just 7 runs at home to Darlington U11’s in the NYACC League. Gregor Mills top scored with 8 not out in the Aycliffe innings and when Darlington replied, Leo Mercy was the pick of the homeside bowlers taking 2 for 15.
