Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks The Flooring Store, had a comfortable five wicket victory away at Redcar 2nd XI in the NYSD 2nd division. The home side were asked to bat first and were skittled for 96 from 26.1 overs. John Cavanagh (sponsored by CVO Fire) was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 11 and he was given good support from both Colin Myers (2 for 17) and Patrick Howe (2 for 25). Debutant Stephen Sweeney got the innings off to a flyer with a robust 27. Colin Myers (15 runs) and then Chris Palmer with an unbeaten 20, helped to see Aycliffe safely to their winning target after 22.1 overs.
The second team’s recent winning streak was brought to an end when they suffered a four wicket defeat at home to Bishop Auckland 2nd XI in the NYSD 3rd division. After being asked to bat first Aycliffe were bowled out for 126 after 36.4 overs with the main contributions coming from captain Adam Gittins (sponsored by Pheonix Energy), who batted with determination to score 31, Jack Slatcher (20 runs) and a lively innings of 32 from John Wardle. In reply Bishop Auckland eased to victory from 28.2 overs despite all-rounder Jack Slatcher bowling superbly to take 3 for 22 from 13 overs.
The u13’s played their last game of the season and were beaten by six wickets at home to Norton. Batting first Aycliffe made a respectable 75 all out after 19.2 overs with Kieran Shingler top scoring with an excellent 16.
Norton reached their winning target for the loss of four wickets after 16.5 overs despite some good bowling from Kieran Shingler who took 2 for 15.
The u11’s finished off their season with a defeat at home to Seaton Carew, but here were good batting performances from both Iain Robson (8 not out) and Francis Humble (6 not out). Special mention must go to 8 year old Joe Ingman, who was making his debut for Aycliffe and remained not out during his innings and also fielded well.
