The 2nd team played really well away at Maltby 2nd XI and were unlucky to come away with only a winning draw in their NYSD 3rd division clash. The homeside batted out their allotted 50 overs and were left hanging on at 150 for 9 at the close of play despite some good bowling from Aycliffe’s Sean Morgan (3 for 33), Jack Slatcher (2 for 25) and Elliott Holt (2 for 35). The game was marred when the Aycliffe wicket keeper captain John Wardle was struck in the face off the last ball of the game and it appears that he has suffered a broken cheek bone and a fractured eye socket and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery from this serious injury.
The club’s u17’s team put in an excellent performance away at Darlington and were desperately unlucky to lose by just six runs in the NYSD junior league. In reply Aycliffe fought well, but the visitors reached their winning target after 17.1 overs, despite a couple of wickets from all rounder Lowery.
