Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team team sponsored by Franks The Flooring Store were well beaten at home by Maltby 1st team in the 2nd division of the NYSD. The visitors chose to bat first and scored a very challenging 189 for 9 in their 50 overs. Matty Atkinson (sponsored by Emtec Medical Training) took 3 for 35, John Cavanagh took 3 for 30 and Colin Myers chipped in with 2 for 24. In reply Aycliffe were bowled out for a disappointing score of 90 after just 23 overs with only Michael Howe (33 runs) and John Cavanagh (17 runs) showing any resistance.
The first team lost the Readman cup final by 40 runs at home to league leaders Stokesley 2nd XI. The visitors totalled a very impressive 170  for 7 in their 45 overs, but Aycliffe could only reach 130 for 8 in reply, despite good innings from captain Chris Palmer (28 runs), Matty Atkinson (25 runs) and Colin Myers (19 runs).
The second team had six juniors in their side and were unlucky to lose by just four wickets away at Maltby 2nds in the 3rd division of the NYSD. After being put into bat, Aycliffe were dismissed for just 86 after 34.2 overs, but there were good performances from 15 year old Dan Bowmer (20 runs) and Danny Craggs who scored 14. In reply inform Aycliffe leg spin bowler Patrick Howe (sponsored by Aycliffe NUFC supporters bus) had the superb figures of 5 for 28 from 13 overs, but the homeside still reached their winning target after 31 overs.
The u18s team lost away at Langley Park by 37 runs in the County Durham junior League. Langley Park scored 148 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs with good bowling from both Patrick Howe (3 for 26) and Sam Dobinson. In reply Aycliffe were restricted to 111 for 9 in their 20 overs with Josh Pearson the top batsman scoring with 27.
The under 11’s team lost both their away games at Sedgefield and Barnard Castle, but continue to show much improvement. There were good individual performances with the ball from both Nathan Slater and Matty Greaves and nine year old rookie wicket keeper Charlie Cayless continues to impress, taking an excellent catch and two run outs.
