Here is this week’s news update on developments in the Council and community. As always – if you want to find out more about any of the following – you can go to my blog at: bit.ly/CNB149

(1) DURHAM COUNTY COUNCIL

DCC held its Full Council meeting on Wednesday 22 January (there were items on members’ allowances, polling stations … plus some political shenanigans). There was an interesting Environment Scrutiny meeting on Friday 24 January on the Council’s Business Energy Efficiency Project, and on its Environmental Performance; and there was an overwhelmingly detailed Economy Scrutiny meeting on Monday 27 January on the County Council’s Housing policies and services.

(2) GREAT AYCLIFFE TOWN COUNCIL

An election is to be held for the position of Town Councillor (Woodham Ward) on Great Aycliffe Town Council. Meanwhile Great Aycliffe Town Council held its Policy & Resources Committee on Wednesday 22 January, dealing (amongst routine business) with next year’s Budget and Council Tax; the results of the Satisfaction Survey; and Newton Aycliffe Youth FC.

(3) CLIMATE ISSUES

I spoke to the Durham Diocese Youth Council on Sunday 26, and opened an interesting Community Energy England Workshop on Monday 27 January; you can read my blunt statement to them both about the Climate Emergency (titled: ‘Trapped inside with the heating on full’) on my blog.

Also, this week is your last chance to respond to the government’s consultation on building regulations and the Future Homes Standard.

(4) COMMUNITY MATTERS

• The Police are consulting about next year’s funding/precept; please respond.

• #timetotalk day is Thursday 6th February – why not go along to the Pioneering Care Centre at 10am for a chat and a coffee?

• And, finally, have you signed up to follow Discover Brightwater on social media? – lots happening there.
