Competitions for young tennis players in County Durham are being held in Chester-le-Street later this month.

The events, organised by Durham County Council, include three age categories and will take place at Riverside Leisure Complex on Thursday, August 29.

The Chester-le-Street branch of Barclays Bank is sponsoring the competition for young people aged 11 to 16, which will be held between 1pm and 3pm.

There is an entry fee of £3 per child and those taking part are required to have some experience of playing tennis and an awareness of the rules.

Children aged between five and eight can take part in matches from 9.30am until 11am and those aged between eight and 11 can compete from 11am until 12.30pm.

Entry fees for the two younger age categories are £2 per child and again those taking part are required to have some experience of playing tennis.
