Dear Editor

On Thursday18th October I had a walk about in the West Ward with the County Council Environment Officer checking the state of the Burn the unattended shrub areas, the bad state of the path areas which have not been treated this year.

The pathway along Stephenson Way down one side is in a very bad state with broken flag stones and wide spaces that are very dangerous for electric wheelchair users. This path should be tarmacced like the other side. I have reported it twice! At the top of Stephenson Way towards Macmillan Road are more broken pavement stones – another accident waiting to happen.

I hope Mrs Osmond and her granddaughter are recovering well after their ordeal. It is time that County Hall repaired the paths and roads in the West Ward and other parts of the town. Ashfield and Oakfield roads are one big mess.

We checked all of the Burn area controlled by the County Council and noted, the Flower Bed work that is required and, once again, a GIS report as to when the bulb planting down Stephenson Way will be done to replace rose beds they removed.

I am not the County Councillor in West Ward, but I still get a lot of requests for work to be done and I try to deal with them.

God willing I hope to stand at the election in May 2013 as we do need councillors that live in the ward who will work to get things done.

West Ward Independent Town Councillor

Alderman George Gray.
