Dear Editor Following my initial correspondence of 03/08/16   REF– Elmfield School Site I have submitted a written response to DCC reference proposed usage of the site going forward as part of the 10 year plan. I would like to register my disappointment that to date I have received no formal written response at all to my submission,  in writing made through the correct channels to DCC.  And despite making 5 subsequent phone calls I am still yet to receive any detailed response in writing or by phone! In an effort to reiterate my position and to clarify the recommendations that were made by myself in the previous email, I am suggesting and campaigning for the Elmfield site to be utilised again for the purpose of a new School as this is what the area needs. It has come to light that Cllr Mike Dixon and Cllr Hopper in addition to Cllr Adam are proposing the site be used for another Public Building when they are aware that DCC have suspended funding for the upkeep and maintenance of Public Buildings. There are also a number of existing public buildings in Newton Aycliffe that could be repurposed if indeed there is a need for additional venues to use for public services. As such I would hope that a response from DCC and the department of planning as to the current situation and any information on suggested usage  proposals and indeed a response to my own proposal of 03/08/2016 could be expedited so that all aspects of the new proposals can be discussed before any decisions are reached. It is important we utilise tax payers money to benefit the Councillor Wants School on Vacant Site local community and provide what is necessary for the residents of Newton Aycliffe, this can only be achieved if all information is freely available and all solutions are discussed in full before any solutions are decided.  Without a response to my initial email it is hard to understand the current situation and even harder to get the voices of alternative solutions heard. I hope therefore this will prompt a response from all concerned so that we may move forwards in this process. Alderman G C Gray Councillor West Ward

Editor: We submitted this letter to County Councillors for them to obtain a response and a fact sheet has been sent from County Hall to Councillor Gray showing that Aycliffe has a surplus of school places and a school on the Elmfield site is not required. They also said that officers are unable to reply to every individual letter and Councillor Gray’s comments are included in the Council survey for consideration with all other responses received.
