What a wonderful collection of parks we have in Newton Aycliffe each with its own character from St Oswalds traditional layout, Town Centre Park hosting its play areas and skating facilities or West Park a piece of countryside in our town.
We have eight parks in the Parish, and a number of play areas all owned and maintained to a high standard by Great Aycliffe Town Council.
The Town Park and St Oswald’s Park have staff in attendance daily to maintain the grounds, all of this we as Newtonians take for granted but a huge amount of work goes on in the background.
Some of the unsung heroes working behind the scenes are our wonderful park wardens who monitor not only our parks but Cemeteries and other Great Aycliffe sites and properties during the day, evening and at weekends to ensure that our facilities provide an enjoyable and safe visit.
Dog walkers look forward to meeting these guys in the parks where they have been seen to hand out doggy poo bags to dog owners. Anyone in trouble in the parks can rely on the wardens to help in any way they can.
Sadly these chaps also have to occasionally control misbehaviour not only by children but also adults in our parks and they do so in a professional and courteous manner. Serious problems are swiftly reported to Police and the two services work closely together.
The new ACE awards are a great tool for rewarding good behaviour and have been well received by all.
Thanks guys for your work in our community
