Dear Sir,
We must write in support of all those people who have been cleaning out all the gunge and filth from the lakes on West Park. As most people know by now, they have recently been told to desist from this work as they may deplete stocks of weeds in the lakes and could presumably could affect the ecological balance.
What a load of poppycock, the truth is, before these volunteers started cleaning, it was a health hazard, common sense tells you that. I think Great Aycliffe Town Council, have lost track of the fact that it is ultimately they who are supposed to be looking after the lakes keeping them clean and maintained. In this they failed abysmally. After all they are supposed to be providing a service to the people of this town young and old alike. It may have escaped their notice, but that’s what we all pay our council tax for, in which we get very little return.
The truth is the council have been guilty of neglecting and ignoring this issue for a great deal of time and could it be they see these volunteers doing something properly and in their conscience know they in turn have not?
Are they now on some kind of guilt trip? I can remember years ago, when I could go to the lakes with my children to paddle in the water or go on the boats; then it was well looked after by the council.Sadly we can’t do that with our grandchildren.
What have they to look forward to? I refer to other services too which are supposed to be doing well on this town which have fallen by the wayside.
