Dear Sir,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that at Great Aycliffe Town Council Recreation Committee meeting I put forward a motion, seconded by Cllr Arun Chandran requesting an approach to Durham County Council to acquire the old Elmfield School site as an extension to West Park. All attending Councillors supported the motion and we hope for co-operation from Durham County Council. As an authority, we are asking for the use of this land over a long period at a peppercorn rent, which would result in the tidying up, cleaning and general maintenance of the site. Many thanks to all involved; we are only at the start of the process but if we are successful the whole area will benefit from the tidy outlook. This along with the refurbished Whinlatter Bridge scheduled to be installed soon, means residents can look forward to seeing a much-improved vista.
