Dear Sir,
Your article regarding garden waste collections quotes figures for the amount of people involved in the scheme and potential savings for DCC. The current cost to provide the service is not quoted so it’s not possible to work out the cost per household.
If there are now 151,000 households in the scheme and the projected saving is £933,000, that equates to a cost for each household of just over £6 per year!
If 186,000 take up the offer of £50 for 3 years year that would amount to £3.1million per year being received by DCC, rising after 3 years to £3.72 million.
I am struggling to believe that either of the above amounts represents the true cost. Can DCC clarify the above figures?
Is £20 or £6 the cost of providing the service? If it is £20 DCC look set to make a healthy profit from the new scheme!
