NewRiver, the owner of the Cornmill Centre in Darlington is pleased to announce its first corporate charity partnership with King’s Foodbank in Darlington, a place that aims to help anyone who finds themselves in times of hardship.

Through the partnership with King’s Foodbank, the Cornmill Centre is now home to a new donation drop-off point located next to WH Smith as well as providing financial support from fundraising activities, support with storage space, raising awareness and creating opportunities to recruit volunteers.

Caroline Todd at King’s Foodbank said: “There are many ideas and misconceptions about what a church really is, at King’s we believe a church is a community, a family of people.  Within that community all are welcome to come to find a place of acceptance, of value and worth. We all have the most basic survival needs, food and drink, clothing and somewhere to live safely and we try to provide for the various needs for our community.  Our aim is to make a difference for people in our community.

We are thrilled to have the Cornmill Centre as our partner as we have seen a real need in the community for food bank use in the last year, with more and more people struggling to afford the basics. We always welcome donations at the foodbank if you are looking to donate and if you are seeking our help, you will always be made to feel welcome and you can enjoy a nice hot drink with some biscuits while we take a few details from you.”

Susan Young, centre manager at the Cornmill Centre said: “We are delighted to enter into this partnership with King’s Foodbank in Darlington in partnership with King’s Church, which works tirelessly to support people in crisis. Given the Cornmill Centre’s position in the heart of the community, we are uniquely placed to help the King’s Foodbank, raise awareness and support those in need in Darlington. The partnership will also present our own staff with opportunities to volunteer and provide practical help, bringing us even closer to the community we serve.”
