Dear Fellow Residents,

Every week at churches and in other community venues in our town I talk to people about how difficult the last 12 months have been.

For some people it’s the loss of a relative and struggling to grieve. For others it’s the loneliness, and for many it’s the financial impact.

I’m standing in Aycliffe West where I spend so much of my time talking to fellow residents of our area because I believe in our community’s spirit.

There’s so much we can achieve in our town to make things better for everybody.

So many of our older residents have been stuck inside worried about their health and their family.

Our teenagers have missed out on what we enjoyed at their age for over a year now.

I am confident we can find the resources to put some smiles back on peoples faces and arrange the events and facilities that young and old have been missing out on.

It’s great when you see somebody else smiling. It’s wonderful when somebody tells you they’ve secured a new job.

We can make sure that everybody sees that smile in our town centre as we find ways to bring businesses back into the town and give it real purpose as we come out of lockdown.

There are so many things to fix in our town like our unfair council tax and the lack of real democracy.

I will work hard to resolve this, but just as importantly I want us all to wake up in the morning after the election knowing that we have a team of people representing us who will make us feel better, look after our town, get things done, be nice and honourable to each other and be worthy of the name councillor.

I trust you will vote for Paul Whiting and I in these local elections, and l, with your backing, look forward to talking to and helping you as your County and Town Councillor.

Take care.

James Walsh
