PCP’s gardening workshops are still running weekly at the Pioneering Care Centre in Newton Aycliffe and new members are always welcome to go along, for free! There’s a horticultural expert on hand who builds activities for each gardener to improve their health needs and to work on goals they want to achieve. All equipment is provided and the gardeners get to take home what they grow. Anyone is welcome to take a look around the garden and join in with the group on:, Mondays 10am-12noon, Wednesdays 10am-12noon, Fridays 1pm-3pm.

PCP Volunteer David Cockburn has created a blog to showcase the work carried out by the garden volunteers in our community garden, take a look at: http://www.pcpgarden.co.uk David says “Working together, socialising, exercise, enjoying the fresh air and the bonus of fresh produce to take home makes for a great morning or afternoon in the garden. We grow organic fruit and vegetables in our newly built raised beds but also maintain the shrubs and flower beds around the Centre. We are currently sowing seeds of tomatoes, chillies, onions and Community Garden Growing Nicely leeks and preparing the raised beds for spring planting.”

The gardening workshops are ideal for those who love being outdoors amongst nature. Recent work in PCP’s community garden has improved access and provided low maintenance solutions, so whatever your age or ability there’s something to enjoy and benefit from. PCP’s mission is ‘health, wellbeing and learning for all’ and this project follows the philosophy that taking part in social activities, being active, exercising, learning and achieving is beneficial to all.
