Tea and cake fit for Royalty was served up at Rose Lodge care home as they hosted a coffee morning as part of a nationwide campaign to encourage care homes to build links with their local communities.
Residents, staff and guests of Rose Lodge enjoyed tucking into a traditional High Tea of cakes, snacks and refreshments as part of the home’s open day. In true patriotic fashion it was decided to give their party a Royal theme to tie in with the home’s recent celebrations of The Queen’s 90th birthday, which included live musical entertainment, quizzes and themed coffee mornings.
The event was held as part of National Care Home Open Day, a nationwide initiative which provides an opportunity for the UK’s care homes take centre stage and invite members of their local community into the home for a host of entertainment and activities. The aim is to enrich the lives of residents, build links with the local community and offer a chance for local people to mingle with residents and staff.
Home Manager Nicola Wheatley, said: “We feel the message of National Care Home Open Day is a really important one. As a home we believe it is very important maintain close relationship with people and organisations in the local area to make sure that our residents remain an active part of community life. ”
The Care Home Open Day is now in its fourth year. Each year is themed and this year was ‘celebration’ – something Nicola and her staff were keen to follow.
Rose Lodge, operated by national care group Countrywide Care Homes, offers residential and dementia care for the elderly. Thousands of care homes across the UK take part in the National Care Home Open Day each year, welcoming the public and arranging events and activities that help to create lasting links between care home residents and their local communities.
The event aims to show people what excellent care homes are really about and how they can be at the centre of local communities, developing relationships across generations.
