Over 600 residents have attended a series of interactive Community Safety partnership roadshows across villages in the Mid Durham Area Action Partnership area.  With a further opportunity to take part this week.

To date Brandon, Langley Park and Esh Winning residents have had the opportunity to speak with partners from Durham Housing Group, Karbon, Age UK County Durham, the Office of the Durham Police, Crime and Victims Commissioner, Durham County Council’s Neighbourhood Protection and Road Safety Teams, local Police Beat and Community Cohesion teams alongside officers from the Fire and Rescue Service to get advice and support.

As well as seeking advice residents can take part in activities which have included a ride on the Fire and Rescue Service Ariel Ladder Platform, look inside a fire engine and the opportunity to the police dogs Jet and Ben and to put in a cell in the back of a police van.

Andy Coulthard, Mid Durham AAP Coordinator said: “The Mid Durham AAP area is one of the safest places in the County to live, however residents were telling us that they were worried about crime and anti-social behaviour.  In response to their concerns we decided to run these events, so that people could access a range of information and advice to provide help and reassurance.”

The final event to takes place at Ushaw Moor in St Joseph’s RC Primary School on Wednesday 17 October 3pm – 7pm whereby the partners will be joined by a ‘Meet the Detectives’ stand which will be ran by Durham Constabulary Detectives who will be there to explain what happens with major crime investigations.

Please note that parking for this event is limited, but please use the car park to the rear of St Joseph’s Catholic Church, next to the Primary school.

Ron Hogg, Durham Police, Crime and Victims Commissioner, has supported these events, which are leading up to his own ‘Celebration of Local Superheroes’ event on Saturday 27th October at the Locomotion, Shildon from 10am till 3pm. “It has been fantastic to be involved in these events.  The number of people who have attended so far has been brilliant.  I find interactive activities are the best way of engaging with the public, which is why I have developed the PCVC Celebration of local superheroes event, at Locomotion. I encourage people to  come along for a great free family day full of fun activities.”
