The Andreas Ensemble, which holds its regular rehearsals in St. Andrew’s, South Church, is to host two “Come and Sing” events for choral singers: one in St. John’s Church, Neville’s Cross on Saturday 23rd April and another in St. Mary’s Staindrop on Sunday 24th April, both beginning at 2.30pm.
These afternoons will centre on singing together a lovely setting of the Mass, although not as well-known as some, by Charles Gounod. The “Come and Sing Gounod” afternoons centre on his Messe Brève no.7 “aux chapelles”, a delightfully simple setting of the Mass, which is both delightful to sing and easy on the ear. The Come and Sing events provide the opportunity for all choral singers to come and perform this lovely music together with members of the Andreas Ensemble.
The events are free of charge. A variety of other choral music will be included, including pieces by Tomkins, Tallis and Palestrina; even a couple of Northumbrian folks songs for light relief!
